Maclean’s Washington Bureau (macleans.us) is published as a bureau of Maclean’s, part of St. Joseph Communications. We collect the information you choose to give us — a newsletter address, a letter to the editor, a tip — and the ordinary technical logs that keep a news site standing.
What we collect
If you subscribe to the Washington Briefing, we keep the email address you typed and the date you joined. If you write the desk, we keep the correspondence long enough to answer it and, if a correction is involved, to keep a record of the change. Servers keep the usual access logs: a time, a page, and a technical address.
What we do with it
We do not sell personal information. We use it to send the Washington Briefing if you asked for it, to respond to you if you wrote to us, and to understand, in aggregate, which bureau stories readers are actually finishing. We do not build advertising profiles from the news file.
Cookies and measurement
The site may use a small number of cookies to remember a newsletter prompt you already dismissed and to count visits in aggregate. You can refuse cookies in the browser. The archive still works.
Tips and sources
Material sent to tips@macleans.us is treated as newsroom correspondence. We will not publish a source’s name without consent. If you need a more protected channel, say so in the first line and the bureau chief will answer with one.
